Several people recently took to social media claiming to have witnessed People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) personnel attacking migrants at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium vaccination centre (PPV)

The issue came to light after user @sassyRekha, whose real name is Sasi Rekha Ravi, posted a video on Twitter along with a caption that read, “It is so sad that foreigners [are] treated so badly at PPV Bukit Jalil.”

She explained to SAYS that the video attached in her tweet was from a relative who has requested to remain anonymous.

Her relative noted, “I witnessed a RELA officer literally kicking and punching several foreigners and treating them like dogs at the Bukit Jalil PPV today (Thursday, 19 August). I didn’t get to record that incident but managed to record one where the same officer almost kicked another person. At least three police officers were there but no one said anything.”

In the clip, a RELA officer can be seen pushing and trying to kick a man who was merely walking while looking at his phone

The video has garnered over 588,700 views at the time of writing.

Another netizen claimed that she was also present at the PPV during the incident and wrote, “Yes I was there yesterday and I can confirm this. ‘You orang apa? Orang Bangla pergi sana’ (What’s your nationality? Bangladeshis go over there) was just tip of the iceberg. They were yelled at, berated, and disrespected.”

Sasi’s relative also noted that they were at the PPV to accompany a friend who was supposed to get vaccinated

However, upon seeing the queue and witnessing the way foreigners were being treated, the friend decided not to get jabbed.

In the post, they also wrote, “These are foreigners who want to get vaccinated and are willing to wait for hours under the scorching hot sun just to receive their vaccination doses. The only walk-in PPV allocated for foreigners is the Bukit Jalil National Stadium PPV and due to this, the queue extends to several kilometres. The least they can do is treat them like humans.”

SAYS reached out to the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to COVID-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) for a statement but has yet to receive a reply.

Meanwhile, a volunteer at the same PPV went to extra lengths to perform her duties by picking up foreign languages so she can cater to the different people who show up for their COVID-19 jabs:
