KUCHING (June 15): Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Willie Mongin has urged the Ministry of Health (MOH) to engage retired nurses and doctors to help in administering Covid-19 vaccines at the vaccination centres in Sarawak.

He said based on his observation at some of the vaccination centres in Puncak Borneo, there is a need to increase the number of staff in administering the vaccines.

“From what I see, there is no problem at the queue and registration counters as it was quite fast. The bottle neck is at the vaccination stage, where the queue can be very long and it can take hours before one can be vaccinated.

“To shorten the waiting period and expedite the process, I urge the MOH to get some retired nurses and doctors to help out in vaccinating the people,” he said.

The Puncak Borneo MP said more personnel is needed to vaccinate people, especially in the big and busy vaccination centres like the one at Siburan Comminity Hall which he visited this morning.

During his visit to Siburan, Willie also gave away three units of laptops to ease the vaccination registration and food baskets to the frontliners involved at the vaccination centre.

Willie said his parliamentary service centre is also helping in calling and messaging people to remind them on their appointment to receive their vaccinations.

“We want to make sure that those whose appointments have been made for the first or second doses to turn up (to be vaccinated) to prevent wastage.

“I’m glad the MOH is accepting walk-in registration, which enables the government to utilise every dose (of the Covid-19 vaccine).

“I call upon every individual in Puncak Borneo who has been called to receive his/her vaccination to turn up because this vaccine cannot be kept for too long.”

Willie also donated two laptops to the Bau Vaccination Centre and gave away food basket to frontliners at the Bau Health Office.
