The famous Nasi Lemak Jambatan Tamparuli (NLJT) stall from Kuching, Sarawak has brought their humble business across the sea to Shah Alam, Selangor
The popular stall went viral last year after its owner, Ustaz Mohd Ali Jainneh, became unlikely friends with a dog that often visited the stall for food.
Mohd Ali always kept aside some chicken for the dog, whom he nicknamed Abang Long and deemed it the stall’s honorary bodyguard.
Continuing to spread kindness, Mohd Ali shared that he is giving away 600 packets of nasi lemak for his first week of operation in Shah Alam
“To celebrate our first week of opening, we are welcoming residents of Shah Alam to get 100 packets of Nasi Lemak Biasa for free every day for six consecutive days,” Mohd Ali said in a Facebook post.
“Hopefully this small effort can help those in need and will be able to introduce NLJT to the whole of Malaysia.”
He added that the free nasi lemak packets will be given out from 2 February to 7 February on a first come, first served basis.
Meanwhile, he said the stall will only be selling plain nasi lemak, nasi lemak with egg, and nasi lemak with fried chicken for the first week.
“This is because all of our equipment and utensils are still on the way from Sarawak. God willing, all the other side dishes will be ready to be served by next week.”
He also revealed that he moved to Selangor because he did not want to be away from his wife who recently found a job here
In an earlier post, Mohd Ali wrote that it was with a heavy heart that he has to leave Sarawak, where he had been selling nasi lemak since 2016 in Kuching and Kota Samarahan.
“Even though the business has been growing, it is not easy for a husband and wife to be apart. We have to change our plans and follow God’s path,” he shared.
“NLJT is actually my wife’s business. She was the one who made me a businessman and the one who taught me to cook and how to maintain the good quality.”
“So when she got the news that she had to move to Shah Alam, I didn’t think twice about moving this business there even though I would have to start from scratch.”
During his last day of operation in Sarawak, Mohd Ali also managed to share one last moment with his furry friend
“Goodbye, don’t forget me please,” read one of the photos of Abang Long.
After much concern for the dog’s welfare, Mohd Ali also later assured his followers that Abang Long is not a stray, but has an owner in the same neighbourhood.
“Just so everyone knows, he has an owner and his house is near our stall. But he just loves the smell of our fried chicken,” he laughed.
