Villagers living near Kpg Mambong allowed to use ICs to pass EMCO roadblock

Aidil Bolhassan

KUCHING (July 9): Residents of villages near Kampung Mambong, Padawan are allowed to conditionally pass the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) roadblock set up near the village.

Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said those passing through the roadblock are to produce their identity card to confirm that both driver and passenger are from the nearby villages.

“However, the villagers must comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the Movement Control Order which is that only two people are allowed in a vehicle,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Aidil said the decision to allow residents from other villages near Kampung Mambong to pass the roadblock at Kampung Mambong was made following a discussion with several parties, including the police and Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin.

Nevertheless, he said permission to pass through the roadblock using one’s identity card is only temporary pending the distribution of permission forms by the Padawan sub-district office for the EMCO Mambong roadblock, to the nearby village heads.

“The form must be certified by the respective village heads together with a copy of the villagers’ identity card and employer’s letter to go through the roadblocks,” said Aidil.

Among the villages located near Kampung Mambong are Kampung Sikog, Kampung Petag, Kampung Bangau, Kampung Simboh and Kampung Sitaang.

In order to go travel work in areas such as Kuching, residents of these villages have to pass through the EMCO roadblock at Kampung Mambong.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on July 6 said that seven localities in five districts in Sarawak, including Kampung Mambong, have been placed under EMCO.

The EMCO at Kampung Mambong is in effect from July 7 to July 20.
