Villagers find missing eight-year-old Sg Mukah boy’s body

Civil Defence Force personnel carry the body to the riverbank.

SIBU (June 17): The body of an eight-year-old boy, who went missing while playing in Sungai Mukah behind SK Engkerbai on Tuesday, was found today.

A Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak operations centre spokesperson said villagers discovered Muhamad Danish Muhamad Zamrie’s body at 8am around 1km downriver from where he was last seen.

His body was later handed over to the police for further action.

On Tuesday, a team of firefighters from Selangau was deployed to the scene after receiving a report on the incident at 10.44am.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias had said Muhamad Danish was playing in the river while his friend, who is also eight years old, was watching from nearby.

It is understood that Muhamad Danish was last seen struggling in the water.

Muhamad Rizal had said the victim’s friend could not do anything to help because he was not a good swimmer and decided to report the incident to the SK Engkerbai headmaster.
