SIBU (July 6): The industrial vaccination centre (PPVIN) at University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) has completed Phase 1 of its vaccination programme after seven days.

Main coordinator Pansar Berhad announced that this was three days ahead of schedule.

“We would like to take the opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to the business community in Sibu, which came together to speed up the vaccination rate and to protect their employees, and the government which was open to this novel concept of a unified PPVIN,” said a Pansar spokesman today.

“We especially wish to thank Klinik Medical SEGi, which generously provided the medical manpower and UCTS, which allowed us to use their facility and the front-liners and volunteers who worked tirelessly at PPVIN-UCTS, who are critical to stop this virus in its tracks.”

A total of 17,335 participants signed up to be vaccinated at the PPVIN, of whom 13,648 signed up for Phase 1 and a further 3,687 for Phase 2.

The Pansar spokesman said approval for the PPVIN to be expanded to a Mobile PPVIN is also in the process.

“Sign-ups are only done through companies, and no walk-ins or individual sign-ups are accepted,” he said.

He said PPVIN-UCTS was formed by bringing together over 100 local companies, both large and small, to pool their resources under one roof to create a unified centre.

He said the PPVIN concept intensifies and speeds up the vaccination programme and allows companies to ensure that all their employees, tenants, and business partners are vaccinated together.

PPVIN-UCTS started with an initial target of vaccinating 1,000 persons per day before the rated capacity was ramped up to 2,000 persons per day.

Since July 2, the PPVIN has been operating at a rate of around 2,400 vaccinations per day.

Pansar Berhad, a Sarawak-based company, is primarily involved in infrastructure construction, and in providing engineered solutions for customers in the building and construction, marine and industrial, heavy equipment, agricultural, and electrical and office automation industries.

Pansar also engineers and constructs air conditioning and ventilation, water treatment, and fire protection systems.
