KUCHING (July 4): Sarawak’s recent tightening of travel regulations has prevented the entry of positive cases into the state, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
It disclosed that on July 1, six cases from a family of eight were screened and found to be positive prior to taking a flight to Sarawak.
“This shows the importance of this policy to prevent the entry of positive cases into Sarawak and to reduce the risk of infection among airport staff, passengers and cabin crew in the same plane,” it said in its Covid-19 daily update today.
On June 25, the committee had announced that travel regulations into the state will be tightened in light of the recent Covid-19 Delta B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant cases reported in other states.
Among the requirements included that RT-PCR swab tests be taken within three days prior to entry into Sarawak effective from June 28 onwards.
SDMC stressed that it will continue to work together with the State Health Department to reevaluate the entry requirements into the state based on the development of the Covid-19 situation both in and outside the country.
“This step is particularly important, especially with local cases of Delta variant SARS-CoV virus that have been detected in ten states or federal territories,” it said.
On another issue, the committee announced that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for three longhouses in Sri Aman have been extended for another week.
It said Rh Majeng, Kampung Po Ai; Rh Kedeni, Kampung Batu Besai; and Rh Mengga, Kampung Batu Besai will continue to be under the EMCO starting tomorrow (July 5) until July 11.
It also said that the EMCO for eight localities in two districts have ended.
“In Batang Oya, Dalat, Rh Bala anak Umba; Rh Tulu anak Sli; Rh Duah anak Entinggi; Rh Balin anak Gema; SK St Luke; and KK Nanga Baoh have ended their EMCO today (July 4) while the EMCO for Rh Lawang, Sg Kura and Rh Ijau, Sg Kusing in Pakan will be lifted tomorrow (July 5),” it said.
