Tiger Platoon captures remaining prison escapees in forest near Mile 11 housing estate

KUCHING (July 5): The General Operations Force’s (GOF) Tiger Platoon this afternoon captured the remaining two detainees who had escaped remand at Puncak Borneo Prison last week.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said they were caught in a forest near a Mile 11 housing estate.

“Both suspects have been captured this afternoon after they were found near the housing estate in Padawan,” he said when contacted.

Aidil revealed that prior to their capture, the police air unit had been deployed to the search location following information received from the public.

Other parties involved in the operation were from the Padawan District police headquarters, K9 unit of the state police headquarters, and Puncak Borneo Prison personnel.

The two escaped detainees who were captured were a 26-year-old from Sibu remanded for housebreaking, and a 38-year-old Indonesian remanded for drug trafficking.

They were among four detainees who managed to escape from a prison transit house during a thunderstorm around 5.10pm on July 1.

The four escaped by prying open a grille inside one of the toilets and running through the prison compound towards nearby jungle.

At the time there were 59 suspects in total in the prison transit house.

On July 1, a prisons patrol team arrested a detainee from Lundu at a PR1MA housing area in Kampung Sinar Baru at 6.25pm.

The same team arrested a second detainee from Jalan Puncak Borneo at one of roads in Kampung Sinar Baru at 10.50pm.
