KUCHING (June 22): Work on the 16-storey integrated administration complex in Tanjung Manis is expected to be completed in December, said Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh.

He said construction on the RM78.2 million project began in March 2018 to centralise both state and federal government departments and agencies.

“The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) has been entrusted by the government to construct the complex.

“After it is completed, most of the agencies or departments will move in to the building by next year. This is done so that services to the people can be provided efficiently,” he told reporters.

The complex will serve as a one-stop centre for Tanjung Manis district, so that residents need not go to Mukah, Sibu, or Sarikei to deal with government agencies.

Besides STIDC, the building will also house the district office, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), Customs Department, and Immigration Department among others.

On development, Len Talif said existing infrastructure, especially  telecommunications and roads, will continue to be upgraded.

The development of Tanjung Manis began with its Timber Industrial Processing Zone (TMTPZ) in 1990, followed by Deep Sea Fishery Port Complex in 2004, Ship-building Industrial Area in 2007, as well as Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) and Tanjung Manis Halal Hub in 2009.

Tanjung Manis halal hub has been re-branded as the Tanjung Manis Economic Growth Area (T-Mega), taking into consideration the various economic activities there.
