Staying out past curfew tops list of compounds issued in S’wak

KUCHING (June 22): The police have issued 82 compounds across Sarawak today for violations of standard operating procedures (SOPs), said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

In a statement, the committee said 48 compounds were issued in Kuching, Matu and Daro (8), Kota Samarahan (7), Lawas (7), Sibu (4), Saratok (3), Bintulu (2), Miri (2) and Padawan (1).

It said a majority of 41 compounds were issued for being outside after 10pm without valid reasons, followed by organising sports activities in public areas (23), exceeding the number of people allowed to travel in a vehicle (7), not wearing face mask (2) and violating SOP conditions (2).

Two compounds were issued for operating beyond stipulated hours, exiting one’s home in Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) area (2), opening prohibited store sections for business (2) and not preparing MySejahtera QR Code (1).

Since March 18 last year, the committee said the police have issued a total of 8,115 compounds.

As for the local authorities under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, the committee said nine compounds in total were issued, with two from Bintulu Development Authority, Miri City Council (2) and one each from the Sibu Rural District Council, Serian District Council, Bau District Council, Sri Aman District Council and Sarikei District Council.

The violations involved not wearing face mask, operating without permission, operating beyond stipulated hours and dine-in service.

The committee said the local authorities have issued 1,147 compounds since Feb 1 this year.
