Sng tenders resignation letter as PKR S’wak chief to headquarters in Kuala Lumpur – secretary

Larry Sng

KUCHING (Feb 28): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak secretary Joshua Jabeng said today that they acknowledged the resignation of Julau MP Larry Sng as their chairman.

However, Joshua said Sng did not tender his letter of resignation to the state committee but the headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

“He (Sng) informed us of his resignation during our central committee meeting yesterday. We acknowledge his intention to resign. Whatever the decision at the national-level leadership is, we abide by it,” he told The Borneo Post today.

Joshua said he still hoped that Sng would reconsider his decision albeit he would not be too optimistic about the latter changing his mind.

He said the state PKR leadership managed to convince Sng to continue leading the party after he first tendered his resignation before Christmas last year.

According to him, Sng’s first resignation was rejected by the state PKR, which managed to convince him to carry on his leadership.

“This time around, we decided to give him the freedom to choose,” said Joshua, adding that the state PKR had no problem with Sng’s leadership.

Joshua said PKR Sarawak was happy with Sng leading the party and he said he understood that it was not an easy decision for Sng to relinquish the state top post.

“We have no problem with him. He managed to hold the party together after Baru Bian left. At least Larry kept the party intact for one year.”

He said one of the reasons that Sng decided to let go of the post was to give way to a Dayak leader to lead PKR Sarawak.

He believed that Sng could have faced personal attacks which drove him to relinquish the post.

“Election is coming, maybe his move is to think of how to move forward,” said Joshua.

National PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was not available for comments at the time of writing.

In a WhatsApp reply to The Borneo Post, the former minister of domestic trade and consumer affairs said he was chairing a party meeting in Kedah.

Sng took over the state PKR chairmanship after his predecessor Baru Bian, who is Selangau MP, was sacked by the party early last year.
