SIBU (June 7): Hawkers licensed by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) need to ensure that their ‘Merchant’ accounts on their Sarawak Pay application are active.

In giving this reminder, SMC Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee chairman Councillor Albert Tiang said this was important in that the grants slated for them under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 would be channelled through the app.

“Therefore, licensed hawkers must ensure that their Sarawak Pay Merchant account (status) is updated and remains active.

“For those who have not registered with Sarawak Pay, they need to do it right away.

“Sarawak Pay is the only payment gateway for the BKSS,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday, where he monitored SMC officers at the Indah Wet and Wholesale Market assisting the hawkers apply for the BKSS 6.0 aid.

Meanwhile, Tiang said there were 61 stalls operating at the wet and wholesale market yesterday, while the manual registry recorded 355 visitors.

Grants via Sarawak Pay for hawkers and petty traders registered with the local authorities were among the eight of the measures involving cash payouts under BKSS 6.0.

Under this special grant, the registered hawkers and petty traders would each receive RM1,500.

The Ministry for Local Government and Housing Sarawak had, in a statement on June 4, said that each recipient would be paid RM750 next month, and RM750 this December.
