See urges SDMC to look into possible Covid case at Puncak Borneo prison

See Chee How

KUCHING (June 23): Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How has called on the authorities to disclose whether a Covid-19 outbreak has been detected at a prison at Jalan Puncak Borneo here.

See told The Borneo Post last night he was informed that an inmate at the prison had been tested positive for Covid-19 recently, and that the inmate had since been quarantined.

“How can the authorities be so careless? Are there really standard operating procedures (SOPs) being put in place and being adhered to (at the prison)?

“The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the relevant authorities must look into the matter,” he said.

He said the authorities or SDMC must conduct an inquiry into the matter and inform the public on how many Covid-19 cases had been detected at the prison.

The Borneo Post had yet to receive a response from SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and SDMC advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian as of 9pm yesterday.

Previously, a Covid-19 cluster dubbed Jalan Puncak Borneo Cluster was declared at a police training centre at Jalan Puncak Borneo involving a total of 491 cases. The cluster has since ended.
