SARIKEI (June 13): Pakan Assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom is confident that the National Immunisation Programme at Pakan would achieve at least 75 per cent herd immunity with four health clinics in the District scheduled to start vaccination next week.
Mawan stated this yesterday during the distribution of food aid to low income families here from the state government under BKSS 6.0.
He was made to understand that Pakan district aims to vaccinate at least 11,000 or about 75 per cent of those considered eligible and hoped not a single eligible individual in the District would be left out from the life-saving immunisation programme.
“I urge all parties particularly staff of Health Department and other government agencies; local community leaders and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to help promote the programme and convince the people to sign up for vaccination to save themselves, families and the community in general from Covid-19,” he stressed.
He considered the setting up of vaccination centres (PPV) at Pakan Health Clinic, Wak Health Clinic, Kara Health Clinic and Entaih Health Clinic as most appropriate and people-friendly to alleviate the inconvenience and problems rural folk face in going for vaccination.
“ It would save transportation expenses and time. Hence I consider it as a rural people-friendly strategy to ensure no rural folk is left out from the vaccination programme,” he added.
The people should be very thankful to Gabungan Party Sarawak (GPS) state government under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who mooted ‘Sarawak first’ to ensure rural folk are protected from Covid-19, he added.
Mawan advised the people to continue adhering strictly with the standard operating procedure (SOP) during MCO extended to June 28 and stay home while food aid is distributed in stages to alleviate their hardship.
He added that workers from his service centre are distributing food aid to 3,834 households from some 200 longhouses in Pakan. As of yesterday, 1,558 households in 86 longhouses have received their food aid and other eligible recipients would receive theirs in the next few days.
