Media Prima Berhad has appointed 36-year-old Rafiq Razali as group executive director effective today, 18 February, the Group announced
Rafiq, in his new role, will be reporting to the group managing director.
He first joined Media Prima in 2016 as the chief executive officer of REV Media Group (RMG), formerly known as Media Prima Digital.
According to a statement by Media Prima earlier today, Rafiq successfully implemented a business turnaround strategy that propelled RMG to become one of Malaysia’s leading digital media companies in terms of revenue and audience reach.
“The remarkable turnaround led to significant and consistent revenue growth, turning RMG into a profitable company,” the Group said in the statement.
Rafiq has been instrumental in Media Prima’s strategic acquisitions and expansion of its digital asset portfolio, according to the Group
“These include the purchase of Rev Asia Holdings which instantly delivered a strong youth demographic audience base to the Group,” the statement said.
“These acquisitions, along with digital assets developed internally by capitalising on Media Prima’s popular intellectual properties, helped solidify Media Prima’s reach as the leading digital platform in Malaysia among mobile users, and as the third-highest, behind Google and Facebook, in terms of overall digital audience reach in the country.”
Rafiq, through his leadership, also helped RMG forged strong partnerships and licensing deals with global digital brands such as Mashable, IGN, and TechNave.
It was under him that RMG was awarded 2019 Digital Publisher of the Year by the Malaysian Digital Association.
Media Prima Group chairman Datuk Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid said that he welcomes the appointment of Rafiq to the Board of Media Prima
“He brings with him extensive experience and success having been responsible in key business transformation initiatives within the Group. He is also well versed and a respected figure in the digital media landscape having worked in several startup companies prior to joining Media Prima. We trust that he will contribute greatly to the Group moving forward,” Datuk Dr Syed said.
He added that Rafiq’s new role at the Group level will enable Media Prima to further explore new opportunities across all media platforms while offering clients innovative and integrated media solutions.
