Police nab 11 individuals for cockfighting at Julau oil palm plantation

KUCHING (June 27): Police have arrested 10 men and a woman at an oil palm pantation in Julau for being involved in cockfighting activities recently, said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The committee also revealed that police have issued a total of 48 compounds in the districts of Kuching, Bintulu, Padawan, Simunjan and Lawas for violating the Covid-19 standard operating procedures.

“Kuching district have the highest number of violations with 19 compounds issued there followed by Bintulu (15), Padawan (7), Simunjan (2), Miri (2), Lawas (2) and Sibu (1),” said SDMC in their daily update.

SDMC said 20 compounds were issued for being outside without valid reasons after 10pm, premises operating beyond stipulated hours (3), gathering at public areas (6), travelling exceeding the number of people allowed in a private vehicle (3), failure to check-in via MySejahtera (5) and not wearing mask (7).

One compound each were also issued for violations such as playing basketball during the Movement Control Order, carrying out home renovations, opening an unauthorised business and failing to ensure the attendance capacity of employees for the public sector does not exceed 30 percent.

“A total of 8,374 compounds have been issued by the police in Sarawak since March 18 last year,” said SDMC.

Meanwhile, it said the local authorities under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing issued 17 compounds in areas such as Padawan, Bau, Miri, Serian and Bintulu.

The compounds issued were for violations such as failing to update or incomplete record book, premises operating beyond stipulated hours, selling non-essential items, failing to provide MySejahtera QR code and/ or customer record book and providing incomplete details on customer record books.

The committee said the local authorities have issued 1,183 compounds since Feb 1 this year.
