Police issue 58 compounds in S’wak; staying out past curfew without valid reason top offence

KUCHING (June 13): The police have issued 58 compounds for violations of standard operating procedures (SOPs) statewide, with individuals being outside after curfew without valid reason topping the list of offences, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

In its daily update today, SDMC said that the most compounds were issued in Kuching with 20, followed by Bintulu (13), Lubok Antu (7), Miri (6), Sarikei (6), Kapit (2), Sibu (2), Padawan (1) and Mukah (1).

A total of 29 compounds were issued for individuals being outside after curfew without any valid reasons, followed by not wearing face mask (8), crossing district without permission (7), exceeding the number of passengers allowed in a vehicle (4), not registering via MySejahtera app (4), failure to observe social distancing (3), fishing in a public area (1), exiting Enhanced Movement Control Order location without permission (1) and crossing districts without permit (1).

Since March 18 last year, the police have issued a total of 7,684 compounds in the state.

As for the local authorities under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, the committee said 13 compounds were issued for SOP violations, with six from Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, Maradong and Julau Districts Council (3), Bintulu Development Authority (2), Serian District Council (1) and Matu and Dato Districts Council (1).

The violations were operating without permission with three compounds issued, not registering via MySejahtera app or record book (3), crossing district without permit (3), not wearing face mask (2), not updating or incomplete registration book (1) and unavailability of thermometer (1).

Since Feb 1 this year, the committee said the local authorities had issued 1,016 compounds.
