KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Former Player Association (PBPS) will give its full support to newly appointed Sabah Football Club (FC) director Datuk Dr Jelani Hamdan.

Its president, Datuk James Wong, said PBPS welcomed the appointment of Jelani on June 10, and ready to give their full cooperation to the club’s leadership.

Wong said he is confident that Jelani would be able to carry out his responsibility that has been entrusted to him.

“To me, he (Jelani) is a person who has the determination to succeed and is committed to the role given to him,” he said on Saturday.

Jelani’s appointment was announced by Sabah Football Association (SAFA) president Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, replacing Benedict Asmat.

The former national striker believes Jelani, who is also SAFA vice-president, has a leadership attitude that can move Sabah FC with the support of those who have experience in football.

“Although he (Jelani) admits his lack of experience in this sport, his hard work as well as his commitment and awareness are factors that can ensure the club’s administration is managed effectively,” said Wong.

Wong added that he saw the experience and commitment shown by Jelani when the latter was the chairman of the SAFA Women’s Football Committee for four months.

“On behalf of PBPS, I congratulate Jelani on his appointment in Sabah FC,” said.
