SIBU (June 15): The Sibu Divisional Health Office will open more vaccination centres (PPV) in Selangau.
Sibu Health officer Dr Teh Jo Hun said this would increase the vaccination rate in Selangau.
At present the only PPV is at the Selangau multipurpose hall.
“We are in the process of identifying strategic locations where we can set up new PPVs so more people get vaccinated and sign up for the vaccination.
“We decided to set up new PPVs after considering the size and geographical factors of the district,” he said when contacted.
He added the department will also use mobile vaccination teams for more remote areas.
On Sunday and yesterday, Dr Teh said 1,600 individuals received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, while 800 completed their second dose at Selangau PPV.
Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang has suggested setting up PPVs at Sekuau multipurpose hall, SMK Ulu Balingian, and SK Pasai Siong Hilir.
He said there were large populations and settlements at the three locations.
“Yesterday (Monday), PPV Selangau operated until night time due to the large number of people who came to get vaccinated.
“On average between 1,000 and 1,200 people came to PPV Selangau daily since it commenced its operation,” he said.
