Mirians gives food aid to poor families of 44 students

A group of Mirians pooled resources to contribute food aid to 44 poor families.

MIRI (July 5): A group of volunteers donated food necessities to hard core poor families of 44 students residing in Lambir, Taman Tunku and Kampung Lusut here last weekend after an appeal from a school teacher.

One of the volunteers, Wendy Tan who is proprietor of Bina Jaya Enterprise revealed that the school teacher had personally contacted her, appealing for assistance on behalf of her students.

“We were told that the teacher did not wish to be addressed publicly, but her intention is to get help from kind members of the public to ease the plight of these students and their families.

“Hence, a group of us quickly pool our resources and gathered 44 sets of food items including rice, instant noodles, eggs, cooking oil, dry food, sugar, milk, milo and other cooking materials,” said Tan.

To reduce face-to-face interaction, these items were handed over to the teacher to be distributed to these families.

She reiterated that most of the parents of these students are daily paid workers who have been out of work during Movement Control Order (MCO).

Tan said they were not seeking credit but wished to highlight that there are those who have fallen in between the cracks during this challenging times and desperately need help.
