Miri man arrested for threatening lover’s estranged husband with machete

Police arrest the suspect in a jungle area at Jalan Tepekong, Sungai Niah.

MIRI (July 6): Police arrested a man yesterday (July 5) for allegedly threatening his lover’s estranged husband with a machete in Niah.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the 35-year-old suspect was rounded up at around 6.40pm near a jungle area at Jalan Tepekong, Sungai Niah.

“During his arrest, the police also seized a machete believed to have been used by the suspect in the incident,” said Hakemal.

He added the police are investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

It is learnt that the suspect was dissatisfied with the complainant for earlier lodging a police report against him for allegedly having an extramarital affair with the complainant’s wife.

The suspect then allegedly made verbal threats and pointed a machete at the complainant.

This led the complainant to file another police report against him.

It is also understood that the suspect has several past criminal records.
