Both roads at Mile 7, Tuaran Road impassable.
KOTA KINABALU: Hundreds of homes were flooded following more than four hours of continuous rain in the state capital and its outskirts from around 3 pm on Friday.
Among the homes hit by the heavy flash floods was that of Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun, at Kampung Likas.
Masidi said this was the worst flooding at the village and the water was all over in his house.
“I have experienced (such a flash flood) once in Kampung Likas many years ago but not like this. This is the first time I experienced (flooding) this bad.
“I was told it’s partly due to high tide and because the floodwaters were not flowing quickly back to sea,” he said.
It is learnt that the house of former chief minister Datuk Salleh Said Keruak, who is also residing in Kampung Likas, was also hit by floodwaters.
Among the other areas affected by the flash flood were Sepanggar, Inanam, Manggatal, Luyang, Penampang and Putatan.
Motorists were stranded as many main roads, including Jalan Sulaman near the 1Borneo Hypermall, Jalan Lintas, Jalan Tuaran Lama and Mile 7 Jalan Inanam, were impassable.
A spokesperson from the Malaysia Civil Defence Force said the agency had mobilised teams to monitor the situation but no evacuation had been launched.
The Lintas fire station had received a number of emergency calls from road users who were trapped in the flash floods.
