Marudi changes to Covid-19 red zone

KUCHING (June 19): Marudi district turned into a Covid-19 red zone today while Simunjan district changed to an orange zone after recording 41 and 39 new Covid-19 cases respectively in the past two weeks, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“This brings the total number of red zones in the state to 32 and orange zones to two. The other orange zone is Betong with 23 cases,” said SDMC in a statement today.

The other red zones are Tebedu, Matu, Julau, Lundu, Telang Usan, Song, Sebauh, Kabong, Dalat, Bau, Meradong, Lubok Antu, Beluru, Asajaya, Tanjung Manis, Tatau, Bukit Mabong, Sri Aman, Pakan, Kanowit, Selangau, Subis, Mukah, Sarikei, Samarahan, Serian, Kuching, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu which recorded a total of 8,342 cases.

The yellow zones are Saratok, Pusa, Belaga, Lawas and Daro with a total of 25 cases.

Limbang remains as the sole green zone.

The Health Ministry categorises a district with no Covid-19 cases as a green zone, and over a two-week period, with one to 20 local transmission cases as yellow, 21 to 40 as orange and 41 and more as red.

Meanwhile, the police have issued 31 compounds for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) with nine in Kuching, Bintulu (7), Sibu (7), Miri (2), Kota Samarahan (2), Padawan (2), Dalat (1) and Kapit (1).

The offences are for being in public places after 10pm without valid reason (13), inter-district travel without permission (3), operating premises that were not allowed to open (3), not updating attendance book (3), not scanning MySejahtera (2), fishing in public places (2), ferrying of passengers over the allowed limit (2), employer failing to ensure working capacity for private sector at 30 per cent (1), not wearing face mask (1) and dining in (1).

“The total number of compounds issued since the Movement Control Order was implemented in March 18, 2020 to date is 7,953,” said SDMC.

Similarly, the Local Government and Housing Ministry also issued a total of 11 compounds, with Bau District Council issuing four, Miri City Council (2), Bintulu Development Authority (1), Sibu Rural District Council (1), Sarikei District Council (1), Meradong and Julau District Council (1) and Lundu District Council (1).

The offences were incomplete or not updated attendance books (5), not wearing face mask (2), operating overtime (1), operating without permission (1), dining in (1) and no inter-district travel permit (1).

This brings the total number of compounds issued since Feb 1 to-date to 1,110.
