KOTA KINABALU: A man was sentenced to four weeks’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday for negligently violating Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) by not wearing face mask in public place.
William Rudi, 35, admitted before magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles, to a charge under Section 269 of the Penal Code.
The offence provides a jail term of up to six months or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The accused was arrested for committing the offence under a canopy of a premises near a fishing boat at Taman Pucket here on June 3.
He was caught by police who went to the canopy after seeing him sitting there without wearing face mask.
The court ordered the accused to serve his jail term from the date of his arrest and to be referred to the Immigration Department after completing his jail sentence for further action.
Meanwhile, two persons were separately charged at another Magistrate’s Court with concealing stolen items.
No plea was recorded from Musahid Amit, 29 and Shazlina Saili, 22, who faced a charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code.
The indictment carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The cases were heard before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie virtually.
Musahid was accused of concealing a television by selling it in Putatan at 1.40pm on May 24.
As for Shazlina, she was alleged to have concealed a glass piggy bank at a building at Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens at 2am on May 31.
The magistrate fixed July 15 for plea taking and each of the accused person were released on RM1,500 bail with two local sureties.
