The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) laid to rest a 38-week-old baby on Monday evening, 12 July
According to New Straits Times, the baby boy is the youngest victim of COVID-19 in Malaysia since the pandemic struck the nation.
The tragic story of the 38-week-old’s death was shared by JAWI on Tuesday, 13 July, after the baby’s remains were buried at the Raudhatul Sakinah Islamic Cemetery in Taman Selaseh, Kuala Lumpur.

JAWI shared that the baby’s mother is still fighting for her life at an intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Ampang
Meanwhile, the father, along with eight other children, are under quarantine at home.
“Oh Allah. We are deeply saddened by the silence that greeted us on Monday night. It was the first time we received the remains of the youngest COVID-19 victim, a 38-week-old baby boy, at the Raudhatul Sakinah Islamic Cemetery KL-Karak, Taman Selaseh,” they wrote.

The heartbreaking story has gone viral on social media, with many netizens expressing their condolences and praying for the well-being of the baby’s family
“Allahu Akbar. Al-Fatiha. Heaven is waiting for you, dear. May the mother recover with strength. Amin,” said a Twitter user.
“The feeling of crying still hasn’t subsided. This baby from heaven was buried in the heavy rain… May the mother, father, and all family members stay strong and persevere. May God love this baby in heaven,” said another.
Malaysia reported 125 COVID-19 deaths yesterday, bringing the death toll to 6,385. This is the deadliest week the country has seen with a seven-day average of 101 deaths.
