LRT Train Collision Near KLCC Station Leaves At Least 166 Passengers Injured

A number of passengers have sustained injuries after two LRT trains were believed to have crashed into each other near the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) station tonight, 24 May

According to the Prasarana Customer Support Twitter account, @AskRapidKL, the trains involved are trains number 40 and 81.

They wrote, “All injured passengers have been evacuated to platform. Emergency aid and rescue is ongoing.”

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad senior vice president of media and communication Azhar Ghazali said, “We apologize for any concerns and worries”

Speaking to Astro Awani, he said, “We are working as soon as possible to provide assistance and control the situation.”

In a video by Bernama, it can be seen that firemen, police, as well as health officials, have arrived at the scene.

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa has also confirmed the incident.

He said, “It is understood there are no deaths but there are people injured.”

According to him, a train carrying passengers collided with an empty train, causing several passengers to be thrown and fall.

The Dang Wangi police headquarters confirmed with Bernama that 213 passengers were inside the train, with at least 166 of them injured.

47 people sustained severe injuries and the victims have been rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) as well as other hospitals nearby.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 201 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
