Jobless man arrested in Bau for allegedly being involved in drug abuse

KUCHING (June 28): A 34-year-old jobless man was arrested by the police near an unnumbered house in Kampung Serasot, Bau today for allegedly being involved in drug abuse.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the suspect was arrested around 10am by a team from the district police’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) and assisted by the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) as well as the district police’s MPV patrol unit.

“Noticing the presence of the police, the suspect ran away before he was caught at the main road of Kampung Srieng/Kampung Serasot.

“Further inspection on the suspect’s has found a small zipped plastic bag containing a small packet filled with clear crystals believed to be syabu that was found in the suspect’s pocket,” he said in a statement today, adding that the drug’s estimated weight is at 0.62 grammes.

He said initial urine tests found the suspect positive for Methamphetamine.

As such, Poge said the suspect was arrested under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He also stressed that the NCID would continue to conduct its patrols and inspections in villages to curb drug-related activities and drug addiction among the locals.
