KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat has called upon the people of Kapit to continue giving full cooperation to the security frontliners in the fight against Covid-19.

In stating this, the elected representative also expressed his appreciation to the members of the Royal Malaysia Police, Armed Forces, Civil Defence Force and People’s Volunteers Corps (Rela) for their dedication and commitment in keeping the people safe.

“I thank them for their dedication in discharging their duties, day and night, for our sake.

“They have been working since the imposition of the first MCO (Movement Control Order), ensuring that
everyone would comply fully with the SOP (standard operating procedures).

“They also keep a close watch over inter-district travelling, ensuring that only those with valid police permit would be allowed through – at the same time, this discourages outsiders from unnecessarily entering Kapit,” said Jamit in a statement, issued in connection with his recent visit to a roadblock at a Sarawak Energy’s 130kV sub-station along Jalan Kapit-Song near here.

According to the assemblyman, the roadblock is among two set up to monitor inter-district travelling and SOP compliance among the travellers – the other one is located near Taman Bukit Goram at Jalan Bukit Goram.

Separately, Jamit reiterated his call for the people of Kapit to always be aware of their collective responsibility in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

“This can be achieved by always practising proper physical distancing, avoiding crowded places, washing your hands regularly and using hand sanitisers, and wearing face masks when you’re outside.

“It is very important for us to work together towards breaking the chain of Covid-19 infection,” he said.

Prior to the roadblock visit, Jamit witnessed the handing-over of food baskets to over 5,000 households here.
