SIBU (June 8): Hair salons here are urged to apply for permit from Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), its chairman Clarence Ting said.
He noted that many hair salons here are operating with only trade licence from the district office but without permit from the council.
“Many hair salons here have yet to register with SMC. They only obtain trade licence from district office and commence operation. We urge them to apply for a permit from SMC,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
Ting said that barbers and hair salons are among those eligible for special grants under hawkers and petty traders in the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0.
Hawkers renting stall space in coffee shops are also eligible, he added.
“There are 750 licensed coffee shops in Sibu and if a coffee shop has three stalls, the number of traders (operating the individual stall) work out to be about 2,000 and they can apply (for the special grant),” he said.
On another development, Public Health Standing Committee vice-chairperson Councillor Jenny Ting stressed that individual stall operators in a coffee shop are required to attend food-handling course, get yearly medical check-up and typhoid injection.
Jenny explained this to Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapaee during an online forum yesterday about special grants for hawkers and petty traders under BKSS 6.0, hosted by Nangka Service Centre.
