KUCHING (July 8): The General Operations Force (GOF) seized more than 5,800 litres of alcoholic beverages and 97 cartons of cigarettes during a raid on a premises here Tuesday morning.
GOF Sarawak commander SAC Saini Bongkek in a statement said the value of the seizure was estimated to be more than RM200,000 inclusive of tax.
He said three men aged 22, 29 and 38 were arrested at the premises which, based on intelligence, had been converted into a warehouse to store the contraband.
“During the raid, one of the suspects offered a bribe of RM5,000 to the raiding team to not take action against them,” he said.
Saini said the seized contraband was handed over to the Kuching police headquarters for further action under the Customs Act 1967, while the bribe money offered by the suspect was handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further investigation under the MACC Act 2009.
Meanwhile, he said GOF Sarawak had recorded seizures worth over RM23 million from 52 cases between Jan 1 and yesterday.
In the same period, 75 persons were arrested including 13 foreigners, he added.
