KUCHING (June 18): The State Health Department has declared two new clusters today involving a community cluster and a workplace cluster here, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The community cluster, dubbed the Kampung Sungai Agas Cluster, involves several families at a locality in Kampung Sungai Agas Lama, Jalan Matang here.

“The cluster was due to inter-district movements and close contacts after attending a funeral of a close relative in Sri Aman. The infection had spread among the family members and close contacts of positive cases in the village.

“A total of 30 individuals were screened, out of which 16 are found positive, eight are negative, and the remaining six are still waiting for lab test results,” SDMC said in a statement today.

The workplace cluster, dubbed Jalan Sungai Tapang Cluster, involves a private cleaning company in Jalan Stapang here.

The committee said the cluster was due to social movements and close contacts among workers and family members.

Out of a total of 236 individuals screened, 31 were found positive including the index case, 199 were negative and remaining six cases are still awaiting lab test results.

All positive cases detected from both clusters were admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and are now placed at its Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC).

Meanwhile, the State Health Department declared an end to the Sungai Duan Cluster in Mukah after no cases were recorded from the cluster in the last 28 days.

There are 93 clusters that are still active, out of which six recorded 41 new cases today.
