MIRI (June 5): The extension work on Miri Hospital Molecular Lab, which started on Thursday will be completed by June 11.
Chairman of Advocates Association of Sarawak Miri (AAS Miri) Gurvir Singh who is also a working committee member of Kita Jaga Miri, told a press conference yesterday that the facility would be handed over to Miri Hospital for technicality follow-up when completed.
“The building will house a molecular lab, and medical and non-medical equipment. It will take a bit of time to get the machines and other equipment to arrive for the lab’s operation.
“All related agencies are working together to get the equipment ready for full operation in two weeks’ time,” Gurvir told reporters during an inspection of the site yesterday.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting and mayor Adam Yii were among those who came along.
Ting thanked all donors for contributing to the project that would benefit the people here.
“I am happy to know so many people have come forward to help. The Kita Jaga Miri committee that is formed by four bodies – Sarawak Housing and Real Etate Developers (Sheda) Miri, AAS Miri, Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations Youth, and Rotary Club of Miri Oil Town – have taken the challenge to come up with this initiative.”
Kung Siong Association of Miri has contributed RM21,209.60 to the project, Amfield Construction and Development Sdn Bhd managing director Peter Hii (RM5,000), AAS president Antonio Sim (RM10,000) and Datuk Hii King Chiong pledged to contribute half the expenses of the medical equipment.
Initially, the project costing about RM1.4million was later reduced to RM750,000, after Shin Yang Group of Companies donated a PCR test machine and an automated extractor machine, worth RM230,000.
Once operational, the molecular lab will be able to increase its processing capacity by between 800 and 1400 tests per day, and expedite the delivery of results to person under investigation/surveillance (PUI/PUS).
Those who wish to donate, can do so online to Advocates Association of Sarawak (Miri Branch) Public Bank account 3083223426.
