Dr Annuar Rapaee

SIBU (July 6): Sibu Muslim Welfare Trust Board (Lakis) chairman Dr Annuar Rapaee has given the thumbs up to the mosques and suraus here for going all out to help those who are facing difficulties due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing said a majority of those who came to the mosques and suraus for the food assistance were from the non-Muslim community.

“This clearly shows the trust on the mosques and suraus in rendering assistance is not only among the Muslim community but also the communities from other faiths.

“Additionally, it reflects the strong interfaith relation among the Sibu folk.

“In fact, one of the recipients told me he was asked by a people’s elected representative (YB) to come to An-Nur Mosque to obtain the food assistance,” he said today.

In this regard, Dr Annuar said the recipient hoped that other houses of worship would emulate the fine example of the mosques and suraus here in aiding the folk who are in need.

He also thanked the elected representative concerned for directing the recipient to An-Nur Mosque.

The Nangka assemblyman hoped that other elected representatives here would come up with similar programme to assist the folk in need of food assistance.

Towards this end, he said the idea of setting up the ‘Almari Sedekah’ (alms closet)  in mosques and suraus here was to assist families irrespective of religious background, who ran out of food supplies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Annuar, said he would meet up with the alms closet committee to further strengthen the standard operating procedure (SOP) in mosques and suraus in view of the number of recipients coming for the food aid.
