SIBU (May 18): Nearly 7,000 folk here will receive their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine between May 18 and 29, said Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator, Dr Annuar Rapaee.

In this regard, he reminded those going for the vaccination to come according to the allotted time, so as to avoid congestion in Sibu Indoor Stadium.

“We would like repeat our reminder to those coming for the vaccination to adhere to the given time.

“There is no need for them to come too early.

“Just come 15 minutes before the stated time as we do not want to have a big crowd at the stadium,” Dr Annuar, who is Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, said.

He told The Borneo Post this after inspecting the preparations at the vaccination centre in the Indoor Stadium here yesterday.

He noted that some elderly folk were reluctant to get registered for vaccination on the ground that they have comorbidities.

“My advice to them is, do not listen to any unfounded information. It is very important that they go for vaccination as they are in the high risk group.

“Vaccination is the only means to put an end to Covid-19 once and for all,” the Nangka assemblyman stressed.

Meanwhile, Sarawak yesterday recorded a total of 433 new Covid-19 cases as well as one fatality.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Sibu recorded 48 cases – 32 cases from areas under Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and 16 cases from Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) areas.
