Covid-19: Sarawak’s new cases drop to 286 today; 2 deaths recorded

KUCHING (July 6): Sarawak’s new Covid-19 cases dropped to 286 today with 199 of the cases (69.58 per cent) detected in Kuching, Subis, Miri, Sibu and Bintulu, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

It said in its Covid-19 daily update that the state also recorded two death cases, bringing the death toll to 421.

“Kuching recorded the highest number of cases at 85 followed by Subis (50), Miri (32), Sibu (21), Bintulu (11), Saratok (11), Serian (11), Song (8), Asajaya (8), Sri Aman (7), Kapit (7), Bau (5), Bukit Mabong (5), Telang Usan (5), Tatau (4), Samarahan (4), Kanowit (3), Sarikei (2), and Tanjung Manis (2).

“Five districts recorded only one case and they are Simunjan, Selangau, Meradong (1), Beluru and Lundu,” it said, adding that the cumulative number of cases in Sarawak now stands at 67,271.

SDMC stated that 29 individuals out of the new cases reported today had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection when screenings were conducted while 236 cases were detected from individuals who were instructed to be quarantined at quarantine centres.

“In summary, the cases consisted of 153 which were detected from screenings of individuals with contact to positive cases; 82 cases from screenings of individuals from existing active clusters; 31 from other screenings at health facilities; 19 from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities; as well as one Import B case involving an individual who had returned from another state in the country.”

On the death cases, the committee said both victims were male and in their 50s.

“Case 420 was a 59-year-old from Pakan who had tested positive on June 22.

“The victim had a history of high blood pressure and diabetes and he died at Sarikei Hospital,” it said.

It said the second fatality reported today involved a 56-year-old from Sibu.

“The victim, who had tested positive on June 29, passed away at Sibu Hospital,” it added.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients today exceeded new infection cases at 345, bringing the total number of recovery and discharged cases to 56,745 or 84.35 per cent out of the overall cases.

It also said that 9,950 patients were still warded and under medical supervision at hospitals and PKRCs throughout the state.
