A police sergeant in Klang has died after testing positive for COVID-19
The 53-year-old was undergoing home quarantine since 22 January and was supposed to complete his isolation on 1 February, according to South Klang district police chief ACP Shamsul Amar Ramli.
Shamsul Amar said that the officer was tested on 22 and 23 January for COVID-19 as he had a fever and both the results of the tests came back positive for the virus.
“He was subsequently quarantined at home … However, he died at home [on Wednesday] evening, 27 January,” Shamsul Amar was quoted saying by New Straits Times yesterday, 28 January.
He was attached to the South Klang district police headquarters.
While he died from COVID-19 on Wednesday, he was not included in the list of COVID-19 deaths by the Ministry of Health by Thursday
According to Shamsul Amar, the officer died at his house in Klang at 8.29pm, 27 January.
Malaysiakini reported that it has observed a delay of several days between the occurrence of a publicly known death, and when a death matching the deceased’s description is announced by the ministry.
Shamsul Amar was reported saying that the body of the officer was brought to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital where medical officer Dr Tian Pei Xuan classified his cause of death as a result of COVID-19.
“He was buried at the Sungai Sireh Muslim Burial Ground here at 5.45pm on Thurday,” he said, adding that the Royal Malaysia Police officer leaves behind a wife and five children.
