Covid-19: New Jalan Merpati Cluster emerges in Miri

KUCHING (March 17): Another new Covid-19 cluster, dubbed Jalan Merpati Cluster, was declared by the State Health Department today, involving a workplace in a shopping centre in Miri.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the new cluster currently only involves Miri district, and the index case is a 45-year-old Sarawakian woman who was screened after experiencing symptoms on March 7.

“A total of 310 people were screened, 193 were found negative and 66 are still waiting for their results. Additional 50 positive cases were discovered for the cluster,” said SDMC in a press statement today.

All 51 were referred to Miri Hospital and Miri quarantine centre for isolation and further treatment.

Aside from the new cluster, 31 other clusters remain active. Out of the 31, six clusters recorded new positive cases today.

The Tanjung Cluster in Bintulu and Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Kuching recorded the most number of positive cases with 15 respectively, bringing the total number of cases to 34 and 324 respectively.

The Tanjung Cluster saw 142 individuals screened with 108 of them tested negative, and none awaiting laboratory results.

The Emperoh Jambu Cluster saw 1,800 individuals screened with 1,355 of them tested negative, and 121 awaiting laboratory results.

The Hilir Cluster in Sibu recorded two new positive cases, bringing the total number of cases to 37. A total of 43 individuals have been screened with four of them tested negative, and two awaiting laboratory results.

The other three clusters, Jalan Main Bazaar Cluster in Sri Aman, Kiba Cluster in Sibu and Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong recorded one new positive case respectively.

For the Jalan Main Bazaar Cluster, 135 individuals have been screened with 15 tested positive, 120 tested negative, and none awaiting laboratory results.

The Kiba Cluster saw 97 individuals screened with 39 of them tested positive, 58 negative, and none awaiting laboratory results.

The Jalan Muhibbah Cluster has a total of 318 positive cases with 2,900 individuals have been screened with 2,555 of them tested negative, and 27 awaiting laboratory results.

The remaining active clusters are the Gelong Cluster in Kapit, Nanga Bulo Cluster in Julau, Sanyan Cluster in Sibu, Begalak Cluster in Song, Buluh Pasi Cluster in Meradong, Sena Cluster in Miri, Jalan Awang Cluster in Sibu, Buloh Cluster in Selangau, Melor Cluster in Pusa, Bukit Tunggal Cluster in Julau, Jalan Ho Pin Cluster in Samarahan, Sungai Bakong Cluster in Meradong, Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster in Kuching, Jalan Green Cluster in Kuching, Kejatau Cluster in Sri Aman, Jan Yong Cluster in Kapit, Geronggang Cluster in Sibu, Univista Cluster in Samarahan, Kidurong Dua Cluster in Bintulu, Nanga Lijan Cluster in Julau, Seruas Cluster in Beluru, Sebangkoi Cluster in Sri Aman, Jun Heng Cluster in Bintulu, Rakut Cluster in Miri and Pasai Cluster in Sibu.

No new cases were reported from the Tangap Sub-Cluster in Subis.
