A couple missing from the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital (HSIP) in Kuala Krai, Kota Bharu, since Thursday night, 4 February, have yet to be located. They were scheduled to undergo a COVID-19 screening test.
The Orang Asli couple from Kampung Pos Tohoi near Gua Musang had been taken to the hospital after their 25-day-old baby girl tested positive for COVID-19, reported New Straits Times.
According to Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat, while the couple fled the premises at about 9.30pm on Thursday, police only received a report on the incident on Friday morning, 5 February.
It was not reported if the couple fled with their daughter.
Shafien stated that while the wife was identified as 33-year-old Elina Aling, the identity of the husband has yet to be ascertained
One of the hospital personnel who was on duty at the emergency ward claimed that the husband and wife disappeared after they were asked to undergo the COVID-19 screening test.
“She tried to locate them at the hospital but failed. She then lodged a report at the Kuala Krai police station,” said Shafien, adding that a special task force was formed on Friday to track down the couple.
“The police team had gone to look for the couple at their settlement, but they were not found there. A relative said the couple did not return to their home,” the Kelantan police chief said.
