Passengers on an LRT train on Monday, 24 May, faced a harrowing moment when the vehicle suddenly reached a halt before crashing into another train.
27-year-old Afiq Luqman Mohd Baharudin was on the train when the collision happened.
Recounting his experience, he told Berita Harian, “The situation was calm in the train before it suddenly turned into panic with the sound of passengers screaming.”
“While on the way heading towards Kampung Baru Station, the train suddenly halted, causing people to be flung and fall in the train,” he said.
He also noted that the accident happened in a blink of an eye.
“Before the accident, the train stopped for about 15 minutes before it started moving again. Not even 10 seconds after that, there was a crash and the impact was very strong.”
“I sustained injuries to the head, left leg, and chest,” he added.
Afiq said that along with other passengers, he was rescued by a safety team and was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, a mother of an injured victim said that she was worried for her son when she was informed of the incident
Mazuin Bahari, the mother of 27-year-old Tengku Ahmad Raiyan Tengku Naha, told Bernama, “The moment Raiyan told me that the train he was on was involved in an accident, my heart was uneasy, I was worried for his safety.”
“When he called, he said that he cannot move his right leg and felt pain in his shoulders due to the impact,” she added.
“At that moment, my husband and I rushed to the scene, but we were told that all victims had been taken to the hospital.”

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said that a special investigation panel will be formed to probe the incident
Malay Mail reported that the minister spoke to the press last night, right after the crash.
He said, “As part of the government, we are sad to face such incidents because it is the first of such accident in over 23 years of the LRT operating in Malaysia.”
“The head-on collision is something serious and the Ministry of Transport will form a special investigation panel to probe the incident and the director-general of the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) will send the preliminary report of the incident to me tomorrow (25 May),” he added.
Meanwhile, Prasarana chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman announced that the company will be giving a RM1,000 cash aid to the 213 victims involved and they will bear the medical fee of every victim until they are discharged.
