An Instagram personality and businesswoman caused a stir online after she travelled interstate for a holiday while movement restrictions are implemented throughout the country
While showing off photos of her beachside vacation, netizens questioned how she managed to travel to a different state during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.
One person asked about the excuse she gave to the police when applying for a travel permit to which she responded, “Honeymoon. Why are you guys overreacting? You can just get a letter. You haven’t even tried and you’re already jealous.”
Following the allegations on social media, the Wangsa Maju police department called the couple in for questioning.
Police then found that the couple gave a false reason for the purpose of their trip across state borders
On Instagram, the couple told their followers that police officers were informed that they would be going on a honeymoon.
Then, on Saturday, 20 March, the Wangsa Maju police department revealed that the couple obtained approval for interstate travel for business purposes.
Wangsa Maju district police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah also said that the couple submitted proof of all business dealings as well as receipts of their accommodation.
In a turn of events, the Wangsa Maju police department issued a new statement today, 22 March.
It read, “Police found that the couple gave a false statement in regard to the purpose of their trip across state borders. This couple had made early preparations by making online bookings of a hotel in December 2020 for their anniversary on 17 March 2021.”

Investigation papers have been opened against the married couple according to Section 22(d) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988
If found guilty of flouting MCO regulations, the couple can be fined up to RM10,000.
In the statement, the police added, “We would like to advise the public to not abuse the permit for interstate travel that is given for the purpose of business, work, or emergencies by carrying out other personal programmes or activities that clash with the excuse presented to the police when applying for an interstate travel permit.”
