KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Army in Sabah have almost reached the 100 percent vaccination under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP).

Malaysian Army Fifth Infantry Division Commander Major General Datuk Mohd Halim Khalid said 99.7 percent of army officers and personnel in Sabah have received their vaccination since the Sabah National Immunisation Programme (NIP) began on March 4 of this year.

“At the moment, only 14 army personnel have not received their vaccination due to certain reasons.
“Those who have not received their vaccination are mainly due to several reasons such as allergies or mothers who are breastfeeding.

“We will ensure all army officers and personnel in Sabah  complete their vaccination soon before extending it to contract workers who are working with the Malaysian Army,” he said, adding that 90 percent of the contract workers have completed their vaccination.

Mohd Halim also said that 300 Askar Wataniah (Territorial Army) members have completed their vaccination as only those who have two doses are allowed to enter the Lok Kawi camp or work on the field.

Meanwhile, Mohd Halim said the Malaysian Army will continue giving the second dose of vaccine to the community in Long Pasia under the Army Combat Medic Vaccination Initiative Program.

”We will start the second phase next week, including offering the first dose to the community who were not able to receive their first vaccine during the first phase.

“We will also make our way to remote areas to assist residents who have difficulty in going to vaccination centres,” he said, adding that Kampung Inarad Tongod, Semporna and Kinabatangan are among their next destinations.

Mohd Halim said this after receiving 24,000 face masks donated by Association of Associate and Honorary Members of the Volunteer Department (Rela), Sabah, led by its president Datuk Sri Wong Chong Fah at the Lok Kawi camp here on Friday.
