Due to the pandemic, none of us have been to a Ramadan bazaar in over a year.
Thankfully, these vibrant one-stop food centres are making a comeback!
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) just announced that a total of 65 bazaars will be operating throughout KL this coming Ramadan.
According to New Straits Times, bazaar operators will be allowed to open between 3pm and 8pm throughout the fasting month.
DBKL stressed that there will be strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) for visitors to observe, including wearing face masks, registering via MySejahtera, maintaining physical distance, and body temperature screening, prior to entering any of these 65 bazaars.
Since there are so many different bazaars in KL to choose from, we’ve narrowed the list down to our top five choices:
1. Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI)
One of the most congested areas during Ramadan, the TTDI Ramadan bazaar owes its popularity to viral vendors such as a popiah basah stall that has been running for over 20 years.
Besides that, this is the place you’d wanna go to if you’d like to check out unique items such as cheesy burgers, beef brisket, and even biryani with crab on the side.
2. Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman
Before COVID-19 struck the nation by surprise, barring folks from travelling interstate, many people from far and wide would travel to KL during Ramadan just to stop by Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Known as a must-visit destination during the festive season, you’ll find all of the Ramadan classics such as kuih, ayam percik, and serunding right here at this bazaar with over 300 stalls.
3. Kampung Baru
When people think of Kampung Baru, they will automatically think of Malay food.
Besides being a popular iftar spot thanks to the numerous restaurants in the area, you’ll find snaking lines of people at stalls selling bubur lambuk and roti goreng McGyver (deep fried bread stuffed with meat).
4. Bangsar
If you don’t like walking, then this bazaar is the one for you.
Although the stretch of stalls here is shorter than other bazaars on this list, we promise that you’ll still find your favourite Ramadan dishes such as tepung pelita, putu piring, and agar-agar.
5. Taman Melawati

In contrast to Bangsar, the Ramadan bazaar at Taman Melawati is known as one of the longest in Malaysia.
Besides the array of good food, people have said that here’s also where you can spot celebrities shopping for iftar and some of them even man the stalls.
