216 Politeknik students participate in ProjeX-22

Innovation product of E03 Team, Social Distancing Kit for Kids.

KOTA KINABALU: Two hundred and sixteen students took part in the Students’ Innovation Project Exhibition & Competition (ProjeX-22) organised by the Department of Electrical Engineering of Politeknik Kota Kinabalu (PKK) recently.

Team E03 won the Best Project Award for their remarkable invention on the Social Distancing Kit for Kids project. The members of the team include Cheryl Leonna Lontow, Sylvia Matijan and Alven Lihuan are under the supervision of Koo Kean Eng. They brought home RM300 and certificates.

Under the theme of ‘Greenovation Towards 4th Industrial Revolution’, the director of Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Zainab bin Othman, said that this 22nd edition was participated by final semester diploma students from the four major academic departments in PKK namely, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Commerce and Department of Tourism and Hospitality.

“Participants of ProjeX-22 consist of groups that succeed on their final project within their department and then at the final stage of this competition. Each department submitted ten innovation projects and five best poster categories to compete in three categories that are engineering, social science and case study.

“The eight judges involved come from various fields of background led by Ir Rowdy Ignatius from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd,” said Zainab.

Viviantie Sarjunie, the Chief Officer of Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre (SCEIC), said ProjeX-12 is important to foster technology and creativity in Sabah, and a great initiative to produce new talent in the innovation field.

“Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre is honoured to help the Projex-22 winner to go to the next stage of the competition not only to enhance the economic development in Sabah but also to upgrade Sabah’s economy,” said Viviantie in her opening speech.

This programme becomes the platform for the students to showcase their talent and provides opportunities to apply technical skills in the field they are studying in addition to prepare themselves for occupation that prioritize the aspect of digital computerisation.

This time around, the competition was organised differently than before. It was organised in accordance with new norms and was held  online to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

All the participants uploaded their presentation for innovation project on YouTube and be judged online.
