189 cases, new cluster

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Health Department on Saturday recorded 189 new Covid-19 cases, with one new cluster in Tawau involving infection in a detention centre.

Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Kluster Tembok in Tawau was detected on June 11.

“Index case for Kluster Tembok was an inmate who was brought in from Lahad Datu lock-up to the quarantine block.

“He was confirmed tested positive on June 21, while three other inmates were tested positive with Covid-19 the next day,” he said.

Following the case, 61 close contacts were screened and five individuals were tested positive, including three wardens.

Close contact detection is underway and the cause of the infection is still under investigation.
As of June 26, Sabah has recorded a total of 68,577 cases since the first case last year.
