Soy-based desserts like tau fu fah and soybean milk have a rich history with Malaysians, as many of us grew up eating them out of a round bowl at a pasar malam

Now, Malaysians are reinventing these desserts by experimenting with flavours, toppings, and unique ways to incorporate soybeans in new recipes. You can find modernised versions of tau fu fah that are creative and aesthetic, all the while maintaining the tradition of eating this local delight.

We’ve put together a list of places that serve both classic and unconventional versions of soybean desserts:

1. Dáo

Well known for their silky-smooth tau fu fah and soy milk soft serve, Dáo is run by a trio of Ipoh-born siblings who managed Woong Kee Bean Curd in Bercham, Perak. Their delicious family soybean recipe is more than 25 years old, and they have adapted it in their traditional and modern soybean concoctions.
