SIBU (June 29): Rejang Medical Centre (RMC) here has reached a milestone in its participation in the national Covid-19 immunisation programme when it administered its 10,000th dose since it started on May 25.

The 10,000th vaccine was administered on Amy Ting Chai Jun, 20, at 11.40am at Vaccination Centre (PPV) at Sibu Civic Centre today.

Ting said she was very happy when she received a notification that she would be receiving her first dose today.

“I am excited that I am finally able to receive the first jab. My parents had also received their first jabs a few days ago. Some of my siblings are already vaccinated, some already received their appointment,” she said, adding that she has seven siblings.

She added that she did not feel any pain at all during the vaccination.

RMC General Manager Anne Lau said the centre’s achievement would not have been possible without the cooperation from the public, frontliners, volunteers and the government.

“We are extremely grateful for all the hard work that has been put in. We have been open to the public for a few weeks now and more and more people are registering, wanting to help to put a stop to the spread of this virus,” she said.

She said it was encouraging to see the community unite for a common cause.

She also said that overall, the vaccination process had been proceeding smoothly.

Lau reminded the public that appointment times and bookings must be made via the MySejahtera app, adding that the centre could not accommodate walk-in vaccinations.

“We’re still keeping up the momentum and injecting over a thousand people a day. Hopefully our community will be able to feel safe again soon,” she said.

She also urged everyone to get vaccinated when they are eligible to do so.

Meanwhile, Bukit Assek assemblywoman Irene Chang congratulated RMC for the milestone and in particular, lauded Lau for being on the ground to make sure that the operation ran smoothly.

“I am very impressed with what RMC is doing. Once they go onboard, they are really efficient. They are doing a good job here.

“Of course, there are problems with MySejahtera and other issues, but in spite of all these, they try to overcome them. It has only been more than a month, they already achieved 10,000 doses and that is very good,” she enthused.

She hoped that RMC’s achievement could serve as a motivation for more people to come forward to be vaccinated.

She said vaccination is also important for students who planned to further their studies at colleges or universities in August or September.

“At the moment, the universities have not siad if the students needed to be vaccinated first, but as parents, we want them to be vaccinated and to be safe before allowing them to go overseas for studies,” she said.

She also hoped that more volunteers would help out at the vaccination centre.

She also urged everyone to come for their vaccination according to their appointment.

“And also, continue to observe the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) even you have been vaccinated,” she pointed out.

About 28 staffers and volunteers are working at the PPV at Sibu Civic Centre from Monday to Friday.
