KINABATANGAN: Lamag Community Development Leader (PPM) Abu Bakar Gapar has brushed off Warisan vice president Datuk Junz Wong’s claim that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led government was being selective in its distribution of food baskets.
Apart from those in the B40 group and those in the E-Kasih list, Abu Bakar pointed out that are also others who are not in the two categories that are in need of the assistance.
Due to the hardship brought upon by the pandemic, he said that many people who are not from the two categories have applied for the food baskets through their PPMs and elected representatives.
Abu Bakar was commenting on Junz’s latest Facebook post, where the latter had shown a picture of a PPM presenting assistance to a recipient, who appeared to be wealthy as he owned a Ninja King – which could be seen in the picture.
Abu Bakar explained that it was a mere coincidence as the Ninja King in the picture belonged to someone else and not the recipient.
He explained that the PPM does not have the funds to hand out assistance. Instead, the job of PPM is only to distribute the assistance packages given by the government.
“The people in Lamag are lucky because they have Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin as their leader. He is someone who would help his people, regardless of their political affiliations,” said Abu Bakar in a statement on Friday.
He is confident that the same effort would be made by the other government assemblypersons – something that was never practised by the previous Warisan government.
“The people in Lamag have no qualms about the distribution of food baskets in their constituency as the process had been progressing well there. The process is expected be completed by the end of the week,” he added.
Abu Bakar reminded Junz to refrain from making such statements in the future. He said that Junz should focus on helping people instead of making provocations.
