Covid-19: Thailand records 3,129 new cases, 30 fatalities

BANGKOK (June 17): Thailand recorded 3,129 new COVID-19 cases and 30 fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the total infections in the kingdom to 207,724 and 1,555 deaths to date.

Of the new cases, Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) assistant spokesperson Dr Apisamai Srirangsan said 3,106 were local transmission of which 457 were prisoners, and 23 imported cases.

She said the new fatalities involved 18 men and 12 women aged between 38 and 89 years old including a Myanmar national and a Kuwaiti.

She said 22 deaths were in Bangkok, Phetchaburi (three) and one each in Samut Prakan, Samut Songkhram, Udon Thani, Sa Kaeo and Narathiwat.

“There are 83 clusters in Bangkok, to date. A new cluster of 37 cases have been detected in Bang Na district in Bangkok,” she said during COVID-19 daily briefing here today.

Director for emergency health hazards and diseases at Department of Disease Control Dr Chawetsan Namwat said 13 deaths have been reported in the country after receiving COVID-19 vaccine, with eight suffering acute coronary syndrome.

“There are 55 cases pending further investigation and autopsy,” he said.

To date, a total of 7 million peoplein the kingdom have received at least one dose of vaccine – either Sinovac or AstraZeneca. – Bernama
