KUCHING (June 23): Sarawak has recorded three more deaths and 577 new cases due to Covid-19 today, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
In a statement, the committee said two deaths were reported at Sarikei Hospital and one at Sibu Hospital.
“The Covid-19 death reported at Sibu Hospital involved a 52-year-old man from Selangau and he was tested positive on May 28,” it said, adding the deceased had a history of from high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
For the second death reported today, the committee said it involved a 74-year-old woman from Sarikei and she was tested positive on June 18.
The deceased also suffered from high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart disease.
The third death involved an 80-year-old man from Pakan who was tested positive on June 20.
SDMC said the deceased, who passed away at Sarikei Hospital, had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes. and chronic kidney diseases.
As for new cases reported today, Kuching is on top of the list with 145 cases followed by Pakan (45), Bintulu (40), Kanowit (39), Meradong (31), Tatau (30), Sibu (27), Miri (26), Kapit (22), Lundu (19), Sri Aman (17), Serian (17), Mukah (15), Tebedu (14), Sarikei (14), Bau (13), Pusa (eight), Song (eight), Subis (seven), Selangau (six), Samarahan (six), Kabong (five), Matu (four), Asajaya (four), Julau (four), Telang Usan (three), Simunjan (two), Bukit Mabong (two), Betong (one), Sebauh (one), Lawas (one) and Lubok Antu (one).
A total of 300 or 51.99 per cent of the new cases are concentrated in the districts of Kuching, Pakan, Bintulu, Kanowit and Meradong, the committee says. .
The cumulative positive cases in the state was 61,566 and a death toll of 392.
