BEAUFORT: A restaurant waiter was detained for cheating in selling second-hand clothing or ‘bundle’ through social media.
Beaufort police chief DSP Yusoff Zaki Mat Yaacob said the case came to light following a police report lodged by a victim at the Beaufort police headquarters early this month.
“Police investigation revealed the suspect had advertised the sales of second-hand clothing through Facebook.
“The victim ordered two sacks of bundle clothing and deposited RM3,100 into the suspect’s bank account in April of this year.
“The victim only realised he had been cheated when he did not receive the order and decided to lodge a police report on June 2 at the Beaufort police headquarters,” said Yusoff Zaki.
Following the police report, police from the Sabah police contingent (IPK) arrested the suspect in Inanam early this week.
The suspect, age 26, was handed to Beaufort police for investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
Yusoff Zaki advised the public to be careful when conducting any purchase or transaction of goods through social sites to avoid becoming scam victims.
